The Angelic Visions

Prayer community of the Invisible Monastery

Anne Catherine Emmerich

Anne Catherine explains that the angel would call her and she would follow him anywhere: "sometimes I spent whole days with him. He showed me people I knew and others I had never seen. With him, I crossed the seas at the speed of thought. I could see far, very far..."

From the book of "Anne Catherine Emmerich", Vol. I

When he comes to take me with him, I usually see a faint glow at first, and then he suddenly appears before me, like the light of a lantern illuminating the darkness.

My angel is always in front of me, sometimes at my side. He is silent, makes few movements, but sometimes accompanies his brief answers with a wave of his hand or by tilting his head.

Oh, how brilliant and transparent he is! He is serious and gentle, and has silky, flowing, and shining hair. His head is uncovered, and the garment he wears is long and of a dazzling whiteness.

I speak to him freely, and yet I have never been able to look him in the face. I bow before him, and he guides me with various gestures. I never ask him too many questions, because the satisfaction I feel just by knowing he is by my side holds me back. Once I got lost in the fields of Flamske.

I was terrified, I began to cry and pray to God. Suddenly, I saw before me a light like a flame, which transformed into my angel wearing his garment. The earth beneath my feet became dry, and neither rain nor snow fell upon me. I returned home without even getting wet.

Angels during the Calvary of Christ

No human word can express the terror that filled the Savior's soul at the sight of those terrible expiations: for he could see not only the immense expanse of torments he was to endure, but also the instruments of torture, the diabolical fury of those who had invented them, the cruelty of the executioners, and the anguish of all innocent or guilty victims.

The horror of this vision was such that his entire body was covered with a sort of sweat, drops of blood that flowed to the ground. The Son of Man was silenced by sadness and dejection, and I noticed that the angels were full of compassion.

It seemed to me that they ardently desired to console him and that they prayed for him before the throne of God.

At the end of the Passion, Jesus fell to the ground as if he were about to die. The angels disappeared, the images vanished: the bloody sweat flowed even more abundantly and soaked his entire garment.

A deep darkness reigned in the grotto. Then, I saw an angel descend near Jesus. He was taller, more distinguished, and more similar to a man than those who had appeared in the previous vision. He was dressed in a flowing white garment and held in his hand a small vase shaped like a chalice.

When he opened that vase, I saw an oval-shaped body the size of a bean, which emitted a reddish light. The angel, still floating, extended his right hand to Jesus, and when the Savior rose, he placed the shining object in his mouth and made him drink from the luminous chalice. Then he disappeared.
